Walsden Cricket Club

Walsden Cricket Club have previously had successful junior teams with several going onto district and county age group honours, however in recent years a drop in numbers hit the club and they were struggling to fulfil their junior fixtures.

A decision was made to start from the bottom and the invested in a School 2 Club program at the start of the 2014 season. This instantly led to a sharp rise in the number of juniors attending their weekly training sessions.

By 2015 WCC entered a brand new under 9s team, which brought with it parents who have taken on an active role at the club with fundraising, coaching and organisation. The under 9s have improved so much to the point they have been crowned Pennine League Champions in 2016!

“During 2014 we invested in the Cricket Asylum’s School 2 Club project. The project led to us gaining many new playing juniors, and many more who come practising. We now have a very strong number of under 9s and under 11s, which will benefit the older age groups and senior cricket over the coming years. The local schools are now much more active with Cricket so this is securing a steady stream of new players each year.”
